I love baking and I’m pretty good at it. The same cannot be said for decorating my creations!
For J’s 2nd birthday I attempted to make a Thomas The Tank Engine cake. The blue buttercream turned green and when someone asked him what his cake was, he said a car! So,when it came to making some Halloween treats I was a bit worried people might get a fright for all the wrong reasons.
Luckily,I found out that Dr Oetker’s Easy Swirl Cupcake Icing is dairy free. No mess, no need to colour it and all in a handy can. I can’t tell you how excited I was to try it out and see if it lives up to its ‘easy’ name.
I cooked up some vegan chocolate cupcakes and some simple sugar cookies and got to work.
With four different nozzles it really is easy to create your desired effect and it tastes good too (I was slightly tempted just to squirt the chocolate one directly into my mouth!!) Along with some designer icing, writing gel and silver balls I managed to create some mummified cookies, skeletons, spider webs and spooky eyes. So simple but really effective.
I will definitely be using the icing again and I’m looking forward to trying out the shimmer spray for some Christmas decorations.
Maybe now my son will be able to tell what his next birthday cake is meant to be!
