Allergy Alert Bracelets: Review and Giveaway

One week today my little boy starts school. I am feeling all the emotions and I’m fairly certain I’ll be crying next Friday!

We have his uniform, his school shoes and his book bag. And now he has a funky new medical alert bracelet to go with it. It’s last piece in the puzzle for trying to keep him safe at school.

We’ve worked with his teachers to create a clear allergy management plan and I have also written a letter to parents which will be going out in their welcome packs, explaining his allergies.

But I wanted to get him something visible as a reminder to any new staff or dinner ladies. J is getting really good at speaking up and communicating his allergies but in a new environment, when he’s feeling shy, this will make it more easy for him.

Miss A is also starting a new preschool next week so I thought it was a good time to get her one too.

I had a browse around and I chose these Allermates bands from The ID Band company. I love how vibrant and fun they are, with each charm like a cartoon character, so perfect for kids. I also like that they are bright, robust and will stand out against any clothing.

You can choose your individual charms so they are customised for each child and it’s great you can have ‘I carry an epipen’ and ‘asthma’ as well as the specific allergies. The only downside is that they don’t do any less common allergies, so we can’t have garlic on for J. But they both have care plans in place as well so this should just act as a reminder.

You can choose up to six different charms, as well the the medical alert one as standard. The charms are a little tough to push through but it doesn’t take long to put them together. You can then adjust the band to three different lengths.

Both J and Miss A were really excited to put the charms in and wear the bracelets. They wore them all day long and they seemed really comfortable – J even wore his to bed!
